The birds, chickens, animals, and imaginary creatures that populate my work display a range of emotions and situations in a bizarre, often humorous manner. Sometimes it’s dark humor, or just absurd. At times surrealistic, it can also be slightly cartoony. Many of the images stem from the subconscious. I don’t always have a plan or intended meanings. Part of the pleasure of making art is the feedback of viewers who may see meanings of their own. Most of my work is in acrylic paint, colored pencils, or both. I also enjoy sketching in graphite pencil, and ballpoint pen, and occasionally do small sculptures and hand built ceramics.
An art degree from Arizona State University, and art related jobs such as theater set painting and faux finishing, have helped shape the techniques used to create the creatures that have been a continuous thread throughout my life.
